August, 1947 …. Parking meters were used in Downtown
Minot. The Taxi companies challenged the legality of having parking meters.
Apparently the taxi companies opposed the use of parking meters by the City of
Minot. The North Dakota Supreme Court ruled that inadequate steps had been
taken to test the constitutionality of the right to use meters and therefore
Minot could continue to use parking meters to regulate the use of its streets.
I’m not sure when the meters were done away with but it was sometime after
this.
