There was quite a scare in Minot
throughout 1889 on account of the Indian uprising in South Dakota, but no
trouble was experienced in immediate vicinity. Where the Great Northern Depot
now stands the Indians used to hold their pow-wows, including the famous Sun-dance,
that has been prohibited by the government.
It was not until 1902 that prohibition reached the city, and although
Minot has lost much of her western atmosphere, she still has the reputation of
being a “Live Town”.
